Maya Adams, a midwife at El Rio Health and Laura Ziady’s daughter gave a presentation of her recent experience in Uganda as part of a Rotary Global Grant. The project had two parts, vocational training and family health. Primarily women from three rural villages traveled to Entebbe for the week’s training. Vocational training is important because women often become the primary bread winners for the family, especially agribusiness. Uganda is very fertile and farming is widespread. Health training includes basic health issues but especially family planning. Large families are common and the goal is to teach women to spread out births to increase the health and financial stability of families.
