Pat Farrell introduced Jeff Utsch, a constitutional scholar and speaker who founded Heirs of the Republic. The purpose of the organization is to study and discuss the history and issues around the Constitution with the goal to better understand what the Constitution means.
Jeff is an avid reader and referenced two books, Commentaries on theConstitution of the United States by Joseph Story and American Dialogue by Joseph Ellis. American Dialogue was published in 2018 while Commentaries was published in 1832.
Jeff made two main points: originalism and the idea that the three branches of government are equal are both modern day inventions. He asserts that originalism is used to thwart progress and the legislative branch was intended to be the most powerful; the judicial branch the weakest.
